Who is online physiotherapy for?

Online physiotherapy is ideal if you want expert advice without travelling. It is often a good option if you need help understanding a new injury or painful episode, want a rehabilitation plan, need follow-up support, or are unsure whether you need an in-person physiotherapy, GP, or specialist appointment.

It can also work well if you want a second opinion on an ongoing issue, need reassurance about your recovery plan, or want a progress review after a clinic or home visit appointment. The aim is to give you clarity quickly and help you move towards the right next step.

What can online physiotherapy help with?

  • Back pain.

  • Neck pain.

  • Shoulder pain.

  • Hip pain.

  • Knee pain.

  • Ankle pain.

  • Running injuries.

  • Sports injuries.

  • Post-injury rehabilitation.

  • Mobility and movement concerns.

Most of the issues dealt with in a clinic can also be assessed and managed online, particularly when the main need is expert advice, guided movement testing, and a clear management plan. If online care is not suitable, we can arrange a clinic appointment or home visit or help direct you to the most appropriate alternative pathway.

Does online physiotherapy work?

Yes. Research supports online physiotherapy as an effective option for many musculoskeletal conditions, and our experience of completing more than 1,500 online physiotherapy sessions has reinforced that.

It works best when the problem can be assessed through a detailed history, guided movement testing, and expert clinical reasoning. It is especially useful when you want clarity, reassurance, rehab progression, or advice on the next best step.

Is online physiotherapy cost effective?

Online physiotherapy can be a cost-effective option for many people. It gives you direct access to expert advice without travel, time away from work, or the inconvenience of getting to a clinic.

It may also help you avoid unnecessary appointments by directing you to the most appropriate service or helping you manage the problem more independently.

It can be an efficient first step when you want clarity, a second opinion, follow-up guidance, or help deciding whether hands-on treatment is needed.

Consultation Length and Price

Online physiotherapy appointments are 30 minutes — £60.

Each session includes expert assessment, clear advice on what to do next, and personalised rehabilitation support delivered by secure video link or telephone.

This format follows the same structured clinical approach as your in-clinic appointments, with the added convenience of accessing physiotherapy from home, work, or while travelling.

How should I prepare for an online appointment?

You do not need special equipment. A smartphone, tablet, or laptop with a basic camera is usually enough, as long as we can see you move clearly.

Before your session, choose a quiet space where you can talk freely, make sure there is enough room to move your arms and legs, wear comfortable clothing, and check that the lighting is good. If you would like someone with you during the session, that is absolutely fine.

Frequently asked Questions

I am in pain. Why would I choose online physiotherapy?

Online physiotherapy can give you quick clarity on how to reduce pain and what to do or avoid, without the hassle or potential aggravation of travelling to a clinic. It is often a practical way to get expert advice when you need it most.

Can online physiotherapy work out cheaper than clinic or home visits?

Yes, in some situations it can. Speaking to an expert chartered physiotherapist online may help you manage symptoms independently, avoid unnecessary travel, and get directed straight to the most appropriate service.

What happens during online physiotherapy?

We discuss your symptoms and history, guide you through movements to assess the problem, then explain what is likely going on and give you a clear plan for recovery or next steps.

Do I need a special camera or computer for online physiotherapy?

No. A smartphone, tablet, or laptop with a basic camera is usually enough.

Can online physiotherapy diagnose my problem accurately?
