Chartered physiotherapist in Colchester, offering clinic, home visit and online care

I’m Dan Watson, a physiotherapist based in Colchester. I help people understand what may be contributing to their symptoms, decide on the most appropriate next step and follow a practical plan that fits their life, work, sport and goals.

Whether you are dealing with pain, stiffness, a sports injury, reduced mobility or recovery after an operation, it can be difficult to know what to do next.

My experience spans NHS teaching hospitals, private practice, first-contact assessment, post-operative rehabilitation and elite performance environments. I use that experience to provide care that is thorough and professional but also clear, realistic and easy to apply.

Appointments are available in clinic, at home and online, depending on your needs and the type of assessment or rehabilitation you require.

My approach

Good physiotherapy should give you more than a diagnosis or a collection of exercises. You should understand what is happening, what you can do about it and how we will judge progress.

During an appointment, I will:

• Listen to what you are experiencing and what you want to achieve.
• Assess your movement, symptoms, strength, function and relevant history.
• Explain the findings in straightforward language.
• Agree on realistic goals and a plan with you.
• Provide treatment and exercises where appropriate.
• Help you understand how to manage your activity and recovery.
• Review your progress and adapt the plan when necessary.
• Recommend further assessment, imaging, medical input or referral when that is the safest and most appropriate option.

I do not believe in making treatment more complicated than it needs to be. The plan should be clinically considered, but practical enough to use in everyday life.

Experience across healthcare and performance Physiotherapy

I have more than 15 years’ experience working with pain, injury, movement and rehabilitation across different healthcare and performance settings.

NHS and private practice

My background includes NHS teaching hospitals, private clinics and first-contact physiotherapy. These roles have given me experience in assessing painful musculoskeletal problems, identifying the most appropriate next step, and helping people manage their recovery safely.

Post-operative rehabilitation

My work at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital included supporting people following routine and complex joint reconstructions. This developed my understanding of early rehabilitation, functional recovery and the importance of making treatment relevant to the person’s daily environment.

Elite sport and performance

I have worked with professional football, rugby and cricket athletes, as well as dancers from The Royal Ballet. Organisations and environments connected with my experience include:

  • The Royal Ballet Company.

  • Nottingham Cricket Club & The England and Wales Cricket Board.

  • London Broncos Rugby League Football Club.

  • Standard de Liège FC.

Working in elite sport has reinforced the importance of careful assessment, appropriate loading, communication and progressive return to performance. Those principles are equally valuable for someone returning to running, the gym, recreational sport or normal daily activities.

Online physiotherapy

I have completed more than 1,500 online consultations with people of different ages and activity levels, including professional athletes and dancers.

Online care is not suitable for every problem. My experience allows me to consider when virtual physiotherapy is likely to be useful, when an in-person assessment is preferable and when another healthcare professional or service should be involved.

Teaching and professional leadership

Alongside clinical work, I present on injury and physical readiness and mentor physiotherapists and performance specialists. I have also led multidisciplinary teams in elite sport, helping to coordinate medical and performance support to meet the needs of athletes and staff.

This experience has strengthened the same principles I use in patient care: clear communication, shared decision-making and collaboration with other professionals when appropriate.

I work with adults of all activity levels, including people who are:

  • Managing a sports injury or recurring training problem

  • Returning to running, gym training, dance or club sport

You do not need to be an athlete to benefit from the same thoughtful assessment and practical approach.
