  • Elbow pain, including tennis and golfer’s elbow.

  • Wrist, hand and thumb injuries.

  • Injuries affecting climbing, racket sports, throwing, combat sports or gym training.

Running and overuse injuries

Running injuries often develop when training volume, speed, hills, recovery or strength change faster than the body can adapt.

We can help with pain affecting the Achilles tendon, calf, shin, foot, knee, hip or lower back. We can also guide you through a gradual return to running after injury.

  • Hip and groin pain.

  • Knee pain and ligament injuries.

  • Calf, hamstring, quadriceps and other muscle strains.

  • Achilles tendon pain.

  • Shin pain and bone stress problems.

  • Plantar heel pain.

  • Foot and ankle injuries, including ankle sprains.

  • Pain that develops when running, jumping or changing direction.

Complex injuries and second opinions

A second opinion may help if your injury is not improving as expected, you are unsure about a diagnosis or scan result, or you want more confidence in your recovery plan and return to sport.

Where appropriate, and with your permission, we can work with your existing healthcare team or introduce you to trusted imaging providers, sports medicine doctors, orthopaedic specialists and performance staff. This helps you access the right support and build a clear plan.

Not sure what your injury is?

If your injury is not listed here, you can still book an assessment. The first step is understanding how the problem affects your sport, training and day-to-day life.

What happens at your assessment?

A sports injury assessment is designed to give you clarity quickly.

1. Understand the problem.

We will ask about your symptoms, training, sport, previous injuries and goals. We will assess your movement, strength and the areas that may be contributing to your problem.

Where appropriate, this may include sport-specific movements such as running, jumping, squatting, twisting or changing direction.

2. Explain what is likely happening.

You will receive a clear explanation in plain language. This includes what may be causing your symptoms, what you can safely continue doing, what needs adjusting and whether further medical assessment may be helpful.

3. Build a plan to get you back to sport.

Your plan will be tailored to your injury, current ability and goals. It may include treatment, strength work, mobility exercises, training-load advice, running guidance and clear steps for returning to training or competition.

With your permission, we can also communicate with your coach, trainer or other support staff. This can help ensure your return-to-sport plan fits your training, competition, and performance demands.

You should leave knowing:

  • What may be causing the problem.

  • What to do now.

  • What to avoid or change while recovering.

  • How to stay as active as possible.

  • What progress should look like.

  • When you may be ready to move to the next stage.

Return-to-sport rehabilitation

Sports physiotherapy helps you return to the activities and sport you enjoy with the strength, confidence, and fitness to meet their demands.

Your rehabilitation progresses according to your symptoms, goals and practical physical progress—not simply the amount of time that has passed. The aim is to help you return in a way that feels manageable, confident and sustainable.

Clinic & online appointments

Sports injury physiotherapy is available in two formats:

  • Clinic appointments in Colchester—for hands-on assessment, treatment, and supervised rehabilitation at the Manor Health and Wellness Centre. For full location, parking, and practical details, see our Clinic Physiotherapy page.

  • Online consultations—for remote assessment, second opinions, rehab reviews, and planning when travel or location makes clinic attendance difficult. Online appointments are frequently used by people in London and further afield.

You can choose the format that suits you best, and many people combine both over time.

Appointment lengths and pricing

We offer 30-minute and 60-minute appointments so you can choose the right level of support.

30 minutes — £60

A focused assessment and treatment session for a single issue or straightforward problem. Ideal if you have one main area of pain or injury and want clear diagnosis, next-step advice, and targeted treatment.

60 minutes — £95

A longer appointment for more complex cases, multiple issues, or when extra time is helpful. Ideal if you have a detailed history or need a more thorough assessment and treatment plan.

Both options are available in the clinic or online.
