What is in-clinic physiotherapy?

In-clinic physiotherapy is an in-person appointment to assess your symptoms, explain what may be contributing to them, and agree on the best next steps.

Appointments take place at Manor Health and Wellness Centre in Colchester and may include treatment, exercise advice and a personalised recovery plan.

Common problems we help with

We support people from Colchester and surrounding areas with everyday pain, injuries, stiffness and movement problems.

Your first appointment is designed to assess your symptoms, explain what may be contributing to them, and help you decide the best next step.

Back and neck pain

We help with back pain, neck pain, stiffness, disc-related symptoms, sciatica and nerve-related symptoms. These problems can affect sleep, sitting, work, driving, exercise and everyday movement. Physiotherapy can help you understand what may be contributing to your symptoms and build a practical plan to improve movement and function.

Shoulder and arm pain

We help with shoulder pain, rotator cuff problems, impingement, tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, and other muscle or tendon problems. These issues can make reaching, lifting, carrying, working, exercising or sleeping uncomfortable. Your treatment plan is based on your symptoms, the activities that matter to you and your recovery goals.

Joint pain and stiffness

We support people with joint pain, osteoarthritis, stiffness and reduced movement affecting the knee, hip, ankle, shoulder, elbow, wrist or hand. Physiotherapy can help you manage pain, improve movement and strength, and stay as active and independent as possible.

Muscle, tendon and ligament injuries

Clinic physiotherapy can help with muscle strains, tendon pain, ligament injuries, and recovery after a recent injury or flare-up. Your assessment will help identify which activities are suitable now and how to build back towards normal movement, work, exercise or everyday activity. If your main goal is a structured return to running, training or competition, see our Sports Injury Physiotherapy page.

Foot and ankle pain

We help with plantar fasciitis, Achilles and other tendon pain, ankle injuries, and ongoing stiffness or instability.
We can help you understand what may be contributing to your symptoms and develop a plan for walking, working, exercising and returning to activity more comfortably.

Persistent pain

Some pain continues after an injury or develops gradually without an obvious cause. Persistent pain can affect confidence, sleep, work and daily activities. A clinic appointment gives you time to look at the wider picture, identify factors that may be affecting recovery, and create a realistic plan that fits your life.

Not sure where it hurts?

Don't worry; this is not unusual. If your problem is not listed, you can still book an assessment. We help with a wide range of muscle, joint, and movement problems and will advise on whether physiotherapy, further investigation, or another type of support is the best next step.

What happens at your first appointment?

Your first appointment starts with a detailed conversation about your symptoms, how the problem began, what makes it better or worse, and what you want to get back to doing.

We then carry out a physical assessment to identify the likely source of your pain or restriction and explain the findings in plain language.

Where appropriate, treatment begins at the first session. You will leave with a clearer understanding of the problem, what is driving it, and what the best next steps are for your recovery.

Treatment and recovery planning

Your treatment plan is tailored to your symptoms, goals, and stage of recovery. Treatment may include hands-on therapy, exercises, mobility work, strength rehabilitation, advice about everyday movement, and practical guidance on what to do between appointments.

The aim is not just to reduce pain in the short term but to help you make meaningful longer-term progress. Every plan is individual, because recovery is rarely one-size-fits-all.

Working with other clinicians

When needed, we work closely with NHS and private GPs, consultants, and specialists across Colchester, Essex, and London.

With your permission, we can communicate directly with other clinicians to help you access the right investigations, referrals, or medical support at the right time.

This joined-up approach can be particularly helpful if your symptoms are more complex, your recovery has stalled, or you need reassurance about the next step in your care.

Appointment lengths and pricing

We offer two clinic appointment options so you can choose the level of support that suits your needs.

Both appointment types take place in the clinic and include personalised guidance to support your recovery.

30-minute appointment — £60

A focused assessment and treatment session for one main area of pain, injury, or stiffness. This is ideal if you have a straightforward problem and want clear diagnosis, targeted treatment, and practical advice.

60-minute appointment — £95

A longer appointment for more complex cases, multiple concerns, or situations where extra time is helpful. This is ideal if you have more than one issue, a more detailed history, or need a more thorough assessment and treatment plan.

Clinic location and practical details

Clinic physiotherapy appointments are available every Monday in Colchester at the Manor Health and Wellness Centre, 11 Manor Road, CO3 3LX.

We recommend parking on the 4th floor of St Mary’s Car Park. This allows you to exit directly onto Manor Road and walk straight to the clinic (less than a 30-second walk). For evening appointments (after 18:00), there is usually free on-street parking along Crouch Street, subject to availability.

Wear comfortable clothing that allows easy movement and access to the area being assessed, such as the shoulder, knee, hip, or lower back. You do not need a GP referral to book private physiotherapy.
